ELLEN SULLIVAN

 MLA, PhD is a designer and scholar of design methodologies. She received her PhD and MLA from VA Tech, and BS Education from VCU. She teaches graduate design studio at the Kent campus in downtown Cleveland, and courses in theory to graduates and undergraduates which emphasize the rhetoric of representation. She taught previously at VA Tech and Drexel University in Philadelphia. Her research and writing explores the material imagination in architectural production. She has organized symposia and curates exhibitions which materially construct design strategies. She is currently working on a book that examines the influence of nineteenth century visual culture and scientific practice on early town planning initiatives, and a project in consort with artists that demonstrates the poetic potential of vacancy in post-industrial cities.
